Holiday Party at Stone Brewing Co.

My husband & I attended my company holiday party which was held at Stone Brewing Co./Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens.  I knew that we would have wonderful beer choices but I was pleasantly surprised with the delicious food that was served!  We were in agreement that it was a great place to host  a company party.  It was a bit confusing to find since this was our first visit there.  There wasn't any obvious signage but now that we know where it's at - we will likely be back!

The beer and wine was free flowing all evening long.  I stopped at one beer to be the responsible designated driver. I wish I could remember the names of the beers that my husband and I had.  With my husband's love of great beer and my love of great food... a return trip with some friends and family is in our future!

There were a few food choices that were served buffet style.  I had the Poached Pear Arugula Salad, Mac 'n Beer Cheese, and Pan-Seared Salmon served with a fruited gastrique & fried shaved parsnips. My selections were absolutely delicious!  For dessert we were treated to pumpkin pie cheesecake squares. Normally I find cheesecake to be much too dense and rich for my taste but these were light and heavenly!  I cannot stop raving about my dining experience!

Torani Syrup - Salted Caramel Banana Topped French Toast

I have been invited by She Speaks to participate in the Torani Holiday Cheers program.  Torani syrups are widely known as a delicious "add-in" to your favorite beverages.  You are bound to see bottles of various flavors in you favorite coffee houses!

Cooking and baking with Torani Syrup is a fun and simple way to add wonderful flavors to your favorite dishes as well!

Torani has such a vast selection of flavors to choose from.  You will have to visit their website to see for yourself!  They even came out with Chicken N Waffles!

I'm excited to try the Almond Roca and Macadamia Nut flavors!

If you still have a last minute gift to fill for the Holiday's or can't figure out what to give that hard to shop for person on your list - try the Holiday Variety pack of Torani Syrups! The holiday collection includes: Gingerbread, Pumpkin Spice, Vanilla, Hazelnut, Italian Eggnog and Peppermint! It's also PERFECT for Holiday entertaining!

I was thrilled to receive the Sugar Free Salted Caramel and the Gingerbread syrups to try out!  I found a quick and easy way to enjoy the Salted Caramel Flavor: Simply drizzle it over slices of green apple!  It's like a fresh version of caramel apples! Try it for an instant fix!

I made Salted Caramel Banana Topped French Toast! French toast was one of my absolute favorite breakfast foods as a child.  We normally enjoy them with a dusting of powdered sugar or with maple syrup.  I decided that I would make them extra special by adding some Torani flair!  I caramelized bananas with the Salted Caramel Syrup to create a NEW breakfast favorite!

Next up: Creating Holiday treats using the Gingerbread Syrup!  Ideas anyone?

Torani's description of the Gingerbread Syrup: The flavor of ginger snaps reminds you of cheerful holiday times. The fresh-from-the-oven taste of this syrup gives off hints of cinnamon and molasses.

About Torani: Family-owned Torani has been crafting great tasting flavored syrups that coffeehouses use to make their flavored drinks taste so delicious. With over 120 flavors in Regular and Sugar Free varieties, Torani flavored syrups are perfect for flavored lattes, mochas, coffees, cocoas, Italian sodas, teas, lemonades, cocktails and smoothies. Coffeehouse professionals choose Torani flavors because they are expertly crafted and made with the highest quality ingredients, like natural flavors and pure cane sugar. SD Mom's Night Out Fitness Event

I am excited to share my recap of SD Mom's Night Out Fitness Event with Jeremy Jackson (AKA Hobie Buchannon from Baywatch). SDMNO partnered with Look Better Naked (which specializes in healthy lifestyles), FITzee Foods (which creates ideal prepared meals), and Drew Canole of Juicing Vegetables for a wonderful event created for San Diego Moms.

The night was fun.  I had my first boot camp style workout which was led by Jeremy Jackson, DJ Pickel provided music to keep us all motivated, and we had a chance to meet fitness trainer & model Loni Christine.
Photo Credit: SD Mom's Night Out
I learned about FITzee Foods varieties of healthy prepared meal choices: vegetarian, dairy free, gluten free, low carb, and paleo friendly.  I got to sample different juice blends and listened to the many health benefits of juicing. After all of our hard work we had treats to enjoy and time to chat with one another.  All in all a healthy night out!  I didn't go home empty handed!  We received a goody bag and I also purchased a few FITzee prepared meals to take home for hubby to try.

Photo Credit: SD Mom's Night Out
My takeaway from the event: dropping 60 lbs  ≠  being fit.  I'm only 5'2", picture me at 180 lbs. NOW I thought that I was in shape because I was able to rock this dress (in the picture below) at the last SD Mom's Night Out Event a few weekends ago (I'm the Mom in the middle).  I had put on so much weight with my pregnancy that I did not want to get dressed and go out!  It wasn't until very recently that I've felt comfortable stepping out again. Thankfully, I have a very loving and supportive hubby that looks after our son while I take a "mommy time out". I have been able to enjoy a few hours with the girls. Without his encouragement and understanding I would have such a hard time heading out the door!

THIS SD Mom's Night Out Event was the reality check that I needed to get my butt back to working out regularly, eating healthily, and taking better overall care of my mom self!  Fitness Challenge? Oh, It's ON!

I attended survived the fitness portion of the SD Mom's Night Out Fitness Event. I am now recovering.  My muscles are SORE.  My ego is bruised.  I am praying that unflattering photos from the event do not surface.  I KNOW there are some floating out there to chronicle my struggle.  I am by nature pretty competitive when it comes to sports, athletics, fitness, etc. - I grew up playing sports competitively and I don't like to lose without a fight.  This fight: I lost. BIG TIME.  Not a fight against the wonderful ladies that were participating in the workout let by Jeremy Jackson, but one with myself.  My body just wouldn't (couldn't) do what I wanted it to.  I sucked.  I had let myself lapse so far out of shape that this experience humbled the hell out of me.  I was cussing under my breath and sometimes out loud! I was grunting and groaning and I now officially apologize to those that were near enough to have heard me. Sorry.
Check me out! I'm keeping pace with Mr. Fitness.

I kind of kidded myself into believing that I was in shape since I lost about 60 pounds over the past 2 years. HA!  The joke was on me.  Weight loss does NOT equal being in shape or fit.  I had zero endurance, minimal strength, and became discouraged.  Don't get me wrong - I TRIED AS HARD AS I COULD.  I tried to the point that I seriously wanted to throw up.  I started off strong but ran out of gas FAST! I made sure I separated myself from the pack just in case I might barf.  To my credit: this was a tough workout!  Even the ladies who were fit had to work hard and suffered the soreness too.

My thanks goes to Samantha & Angela of SD Mom's Night Out for organizing such fun events for local Moms like me!  I enjoyed working out, learning about FITzee Foods, getting to know other moms, and meeting fellow bloggers IRL. I can hardly wait for the next event.

Cold & Flu Season Got In The Way

The 2012 Cold & Flu Season has kept me MIA for a while now.  I wanted to do a quick post just in case you were wondering where I have been or if I am still alive. I'm alive, but not well, and have been in bed mostly.

It started with our little guy getting sick.  School has been the culprit. I was next. Generally, I take something at the onset of sickness. I've tried preparations like Emergen-C, Airborne, Zicam, and most recently Oscillococcinum.  It seems to have worked for me in the past but I was never quite sure if if was all in my head.  This time I didn't take anything early on because I didn't have any on hand.  Big mistake.  I am STILL sick. I am on the mend but it is still lingering.  I am never usually sick enough to miss work but this time my illness kept me at home in bed.  I missed 3 days of work.  I wasn't well enough to even WANT to be online. I did not touch my computer.  YES, too sick to prop myself up and crack open the laptop.  I have so much catch up work both at the office and as far as online projects.  We missed our Disneyland & Knott's Berry Farm trips since I was sick.  I hope that you all are staying healthy!

Knott’s Merry Farm! Knott's Berry Farm Celebrates “A Charlie Brown Christmas”

My family and I live fairly close to Knott's Berry Farm, yet we haven't visited yet!  This might be an extra special way to spend our FIRST trip there!
Knott's MERRY Farm:

“A Peanuts’ Holiday Parade” offers seven elaborately themed floats featuring the PEANUTS Gang and accompanied by students from Orange County Song and Dance Company. Children and adults alike will be able to get into the holiday spirit with the Peanuts Gang as they get ready for the holidays. Join CHARLIE BROWN, LUCY, SALLY, SCHROEDER and of course SNOOPY as they partake in all the holiday festivities including cookie making, tree trimming, and even toy building.

Knott’s 1880s Ghost Town is transformed into Knott’s Christmas Crafts Village, inviting mall-weary guests to explore one-of-a-kind treasures created by more than 100 artisans in a Victorian holiday wonderland of strolling carolers, musical groups, community choirs and lavish holiday decorations.

Adding to the unique Village atmosphere are live performances of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” and O. Henry’s “A Gift of the Magi” in the Bird Cage Theatre. Additionally, the world famous Timber Mountain Log Ride is transformed into Elf Mountain giving guests an up-close and-personal view into the world of Santa’s Elves.

Diet & Exercise: SD Mom's Night Out Style

I am so excited for an upcoming event organized by SD Mom's Night Out & FITzee Foods!  I needed some motivation with exercise and guidance with nutrition.  This event is PERFECT!

About FITzee Foods:
FITzee Foods creates freshly made, pre-portioned meals designed to keep customers healthy, balanced, and in control of their nutrition. Their meals are prepared daily with fresh, organic, and all-natural ingredients. All you need to do is heat and eat. I can do that!

About SD Mom's Night Out:
Their mission: To create an ongoing opportunity for busy moms in San Diego to enjoy a night out with like-minded women, while promoting local businesses using creative marketing and social media. I had the pleasure of meeting Angela Quisumbing, co-founder of SDMNO, at a conference last month.

About the Event: SD Mom’s Night Out Fitness Event 11/17/12

If you have been following my blog, then you know that I have been meaning to share a post about Diet & Exercise.  I have done pretty well with weight loss (I must toot my own horn: nearly 60 lbs lost since my heaviest weight a little over 2 years ago).  The tough part NOW is the last 5-10 lbs!  I admit that I have been slacking as far as exercise & fitness (unless you count tending to a 2 year old boy - which really IS a workout).  Dieting has never been something that I have done (counting calories, limiting carbs, etc.). I really do follow my cravings. I have been successful with cutting portion sizes down and credit that for the majority of my weight loss.  With the upcoming Holidays it is going to be tough not gaining weight - I may as well forget about LOSING any.  I would be happy with maintaining my current weight, for NOW.  I do plan on shedding the 5-10 lbs and I have already signed on for a 30 Day Fitness Challenge which begins in January! Will I have a Bay Watch bod next year? I'm kidding!

I recently attended the SD Mom's Night Out 1 Year Anniversary Party and had a wonderful time. I am sure that I will enjoy the SD Mom's Night Out Fitness Event, IF I survive the physical exertion!  Stay tuned because I will be telling you ALL about it!  Please pray for me that I make it through the hour long workout session!

I would LOVE to hear your tips on staying motivated when it comes to exercise as well as EASY diet/nutrition/healthy eating tips that have worked (is working) for you.

Sweet November

Here is my long overdue Mr. & Mrs. post.  I wanted to share a bit about wedded life. Well... not so much about wedded life, but more about sharing how much I adore my Mr.!  I am lucky, I know it but don't always show it.  I'm sure that my husband would rather NOT be a the focus of a blog topic. He doesn't read my blog so I think that makes it OK.  Or at least I hope so! If this post mysteriously disappears, you'll know that I was censored! LOL.

WOW November! It is NOVEMBER. Where did the time go?  Our life seems to be in fast forward these days.  This glorious month is my husband's birth month. It is the month that I first met his mother, the month that we announced that we were pregnant, and the month when we celebrate one of my favorite holidays: Thanksgiving. SO... In honor of this sweet month and to show my thanks: I am going to make an effort to celebrate hubby's birthday all month long.  Hopefully that will remind him of how special I think that he is! My confession: Since our baby boy was born over 2 years ago I have been focused on being the best mommy that I can be, but NOT necessarily on the best wife that I can be! Yes... I admit it....I am that "not-so-great" wife.  Is anyone else with me?  It's not easy for me with so many life changes going on. Have I mentioned that I am going on 42 YEARS of age?!  I'm no spring chicken!  But no more excuses! Not this month at least! I will try my best. Because my guy is worth it.

SO - - - happy birthday (birthMONTH) to my hubby!  His present? The gift of a SWEET Wife!

In this post I have included family photos from my husband's birthday celebrations since the arrival of our son. The first year he got a cake. For the second year we took a family trip to Las Vegas but I forgot about a birthday cake! THIS year?! Stay tuned!
I am hoping to enlist YOUR help with ideas to make it the BEST November ever for my guy! Please share how you have WOWed your hubby! I need you!

Note: YES, that is me about 20 pounds ago. I have about 10 lbs that I'd like to shed. But that is a separate blog post!

San Diego Mom's Night Out 1 Year Anniversary Party

It is a rare occasion that my Mom friends and I get a chance to go out together.  We are all so busy with work and family life. When I heard about San Diego Mom's Night Out I couldn't pass up the opportunity at spending a few hours with my sisters and friends. Hubby was all for it so I began inviting the ladies closest to me: my sister & sister in laws, and friends.  Sadly, not everyone could make it. Those of us that were able to go had a wonderful time. We enjoyed food (sushi, sliders, tray passed hors d'oeuvres, dessert), drinks, entertainment, and various spa services!  I was in such a rush to get to the event that I had forgotten to grab my camera on the way out.  Good thing for my friends who were able to snap a few photos and for Memories Event Photography & Photobooth!

There were some wonderful prizes that were raffled off.  I wasn't a lucky winner but my friend Melanie won 4 tickets to Peter Pan!  Another highlight was getting to meet a few online friends in person for the first time!

Wonderful memories from our SD Mom's Night Out experience!  My friends and I were all first-timers!  But I have a feeling that we will be back!  In larger numbers no doubt!

The party was held poolside at the Kin Spa at the Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego which was the perfect venue. They even rolled out the red carpet for some photo ops!

Video Coverage by The Pulse SD:

Melanie and I were interviewed and appear in the video below. See us at 4:58.

Halloween 2012 Our Pumpkin Patch Adventures

To get into the Halloween spirit we went on a visit to the pumpkin patch. We had a great time. We went early and on a weekday so, for the most part, we had it all to ourselves.  We are not big fans of crowds so it was perfect.

Our son had more fun running around and kicking at the straw than he did on the big inflatable slide!  It humors me how he was unimpressed. I thought he would love it!  He really wanted to go on one of the rides but wasn't tall enough to. Maybe next year!

Grandma joined us and WON our little guy a prize in a carnival type game! Who knew Grandma knew how to throw darts?! To my amazement she hit 4 out of 5 balloons!  I'm so glad hubby caught it all on video!  My siblings will get a kick out of watching mom make it look so easy!

Next up: Adventures in Trick-or-Treating! I'd love to hear your plans and/or traditions for Halloween. Check our out little man from Halloween 2011 as Baby Yoda. Hoping that you have a FUN and safe Halloween!

Family Fun At The San Diego Zoo With Tillamook

My family and I celebrated the Loaf Love Tour with the Tillamook crew today at the World Famous San Diego Zoo.  We met Loafy and got to know the Tillamook Ambassadors. Celebrity Chef Keegan Gerhard and his beautiful wife Lisa demonstrated some tips & tricks on making the perfect grilled cheese sandwich. We sampled cheese, had some yogurt, built our own grilled cheese creations, and enjoyed ice cream for dessert! We spent the remainder of our day exploring the Zoo.  Our thanks goes to Tillamook for an awesome family day!

I wanted to share a few photos from our family day of fun!  Hoping that you all had (or are having) an AMAZING weekend! Please let us know what you and your family are up to!

Andaz San Diego: Art and Fashion Collide

The Art and Fashion Collide event took place on Thursday October 18, 2012 at the Andaz San Diego.  A display of contemporary abstract art from artist Heidi Thompson was presented by art dealer Alexander Salazar in the Andaz’ Ivy Wine Bar . Following the art show,  guests were invited down to the Ivy Nightclub where a runway show took place.  The fashion portion of the evening showcased designs from local menswear designer Maceoo.

This was my first experience with a fashion show featuring menswear.  I must say that what I most enjoyed was the use of Maceoo menswear as stylish pieces for the ladies!  Once you see the women in the video you will know exactly what I mean.  The stylists cleverly fashioned a Maceoo shirt into a dress.  Perhaps I should purchase a Maceoo shirt for my husband!  He will never get to wear it once I figure out how to use it as a dress! Take a moment to enjoy our video coverage from the evening.  Video created by Gerald Labrador Video for  Enjoy!

After the fashion show I had a chance to chat with San Diego Style Bloggers Paulina & Rachel. Mehdi Raad, designer of Maceoo, took a moment to tell us a little more about his brand. For more information about Maceoo, visit their website: To learn more about the art featured in our video visit: Alexander Salazar.
