The Dailey Method

Class 1 of The Dailey Method.

As described on the company website: The Dailey Method is a one-hour class combining ballet barre work, core conditioning, stretching, and orthopedic exercises. The classes effectively strengthens, tones, and lengthens the entire body providing quick physical results.

I had to post this before DOMS sets in and I am unable to lift a finger.  I took my first class at The Dailey Method- Rancho Bernardo/Poway and wanted to share my experience as a newbie.  Please note in the photo above how graceful the ladies look. Me? Not so much. I was like a fish out of water. Nothing graceful about my movements. It was ugly.  I sucked so badly that I am determined to go back and do better!

I met studio owner Stephanie Firenze 15 minutes prior to the start of class, filled out some paperwork, and chatted with staff members. Renee kindly took me on a personal tour of the beautiful studio. I appreciate the on site daycare that is available. Everything necessary for The Dailey Method workout is provided by the studio (weights, mats, balls, etc).  "Grippy" socks are a MUST and are available for purchase.  I wore a standard pair of sport socks and they didn't provide enough traction.

If you are not familiar with The Dailey Method, please take a moment to watch this informational video:

Admittedly, I am out of shape since having completed a Bikram Yoga Challenge in 2012.  I attempted a Boot Camp style workout late last year and that struggle motivated me to reclaim my fitness.  Unfortunately I became very ill towards the tail end of 2012 which sidelined me for a bit.  I had two doctor's visits requiring breathing treatments, a chest x-ray, antibiotics, steroids, and I had to use an inhaler for months. I am more than ready to get back to healthful living!

The Dailey Method is quite possibly the best workout I have ever tried.  The combination of ballet barre work, core conditioning, muscle strengthening, yoga, and orthopedic exercises is exactly what I have been searching for.  I struggle with postural issues, neck, shoulder, back, and hip pain.  My occupation requires the majority of my 8 hour workday confined to a desk.  On top of that I have scoliosis.  A strong core is vital to keep my condition from worsening.  With consistency in practicing The Dailey Method I am confident that I can regain proper alignment.  The exercises are controlled and very focused.  In the one hour session my entire body benefited.  I am an instant fan.

The class that I attended was led by studio owner Stephanie Firenze. She did an excellent job at leading the class.  She was vigilant at ensuring that the movements were done correctly by each student.  The class was comprised of a diverse group of ladies. A wide range of ages and fitness levels, including a pregnant student.  I mention this because if my husband and I are blessed with a second child I would love to be able to safely continue to take classes throughout pregnancy.

THERA°PEARL, Epsom Salt, & Boiron Arnicare Gel
Many of the movements were very new to me since I have not been very active (aside from my jog/walks during my lunch breaks at work).

The muscles that have been neglected complained during this class.  I got a cramp in my left foot and I strained my inner right thigh a bit. I have my soreness kit at the ready!

I found The Dailey Method to be very challenging. I LOVE a good challenge! I enjoyed the experience so much that I want to take all of my girlfriends & sisters with me!

I hope to share more of my personal Dailey Method journey with you all!

Disclosure:  All opinions contained in this post are my own.  I received a complimentary trial class to The Dailey Method- Rancho Bernardo/Poway.

  1. I love the idea of including a ballet barre workout. I have heard that this is great for working your core. I wish one of the gyms in my town offered it. Thanks for sharing!

I'm excited because there is a DVD available! I am thinking of buying it so I can do it at home when I can't make it to the studio.

  6. I am glad that you had to the opportunity to try a new form of exercise. As a busy mom, I understand the importance of exercise and the need for childcare. This facility covered both, making it easy for a mom to enroll.

  9. The Dailey Method sounds like something I wouldn't mind doing. I know I need exercise, and that type of exercise doesn't seem like torture at all.

  11. This actually sounds like the ultimate workout for me. I did jazz dance for four years in junior college and would klll to do those stretches again. I was in such good shape then. Two kids later, not so much. I've been toying with trying Zumba because I'm Hispanic but I would much rather do ballet-style exercise.

  12. I have a DVD that I got ages ago that is this same type of workout. Of course I don't have a barre at home. I would love to try a class in person. That would be awesome! Good Luck on your journey with this. I look forward to seeing how it goes!

  14. I have never heard of The Dailey Method. I have been trying to do Zumba at least 3 to 5 times a week. It is fun and I did great the first week, but I have once again slacked off. I have got to get motivated again. Good luck!

    Thanks for visiting my blog!
