Nostalgia: Saturday Morning Cartoons & Bickering with My Siblings

Thanks to our friends at MyBlogSpark & General Mills we received a gift pack that brought back nostalgic memories of my childhood.  Our prize pack included a box of Cheerios, a box of Lucky Charms, a vintage Parcheesi board game, and a $10 gift card to Target.

Life has been a blur for the past few months. My blog time has fallen by the wayside. With the recent loss in my family we have been focused on simply enjoying our family moments even more.

Cereal was always a hit when we were kids.  I've found that among many of my mom friends - Cheerios has been a part of their toddler's early finger foods!  Did you toddler learn to pick up food with Cheerios too?

General Mills has gone "Retro” with special edition classic packaging from the 1950’s, ’60s and ’80s!  Do these packages bring back memories for you as well? It surely brought back memories of my youth!  You can pick up a box at Target.  It was on sale at our local store for $2.99! Check out all the General Mills specials at Target: here. Save even more with a Coupon for $1 off 2 General Mills cereals.  On the back of the specially marked boxes is a coupon for $5.00 off select Hasbro vintage board games: Clue® Vintage, Scrabble® Vintage, Parcheesi® Vintage or Risk® Vintage.  I loved board games growing up! They still have the ones that we grew up with!

Participating Big G cereals include: Cinnamon Toast Crunch® (16.2 oz.), Lucky Charms® (16 oz.), Honey Nut Cheerios® (17 oz.), Cheerios® (18 oz.) and Cocoa Puffs® (16.5 oz.)

Looking back, I was the picky eater among my siblings but when it came to cold cereal my mom had NO PROBLEM.  We liked them all. I now realize how easy Saturday mornings were for my parents. We would help ourselves to some cereal and watch early morning cartoons! Of course there was the occasional bickering on which ones to watch since there were 3 kids and just one TV!  I still remember all of the television commercials! I  wish they would bring those back too!  Once we had our breakfast and finished watching a few episodes of our favorites we would begin our day of chores!  Looking back that didn't seem to take too much time and we would soon be off to play OUTSIDE!  Do kids even DO that anymore?

We didn't have access to excess that you see nowadays!  The number of television programs were limited, we didn't grow up with the Internet, and we all shared ONE TV set.  Family time was time spent TOGETHER.  That meant meal time, TV time, and play time!  We would play games: Board games, Atari, OUTDOOR games like tag, red rover, and hide & seek! Riding bikes and playing with the kids in the neighborhood was fun!  Those were the days! Thank you General Mills & MyBlogSpark for taking me on a trip down memory lane!  I miss the simple times - don't you?

Our son is a preschooler but we definitely plan bringing back classic entertainment in our family!  We will unplug and get outside to play (which we already do), watch television as a family, eat meals as a family, and play games together! It's time to build up our board game collection!

I MUST know what your favorite cereal was & which board games you played when you were a kid? Oh do share!

April Showers Bring May Flowers

Easter 2013
Hello  April.  On this first day in April it was gloomy and drizzled a bit during my drive to work.  I welcome the new month since March was a rough one this year.  I have been in a bit of a funk for quite a while now. As you may know, I lost my Grandmother very recently and it has affected me quite a bit.   I've been on an emotional roller coaster ever since.  I am taking things day by day.  I have happy thoughts and wonderful blessings.  I also have my sad moments. I'm going with the flow the best that I can...

I'm including our most recent family photo which was taken on Easter Sunday.  I'm blessed.  We are happy, healthy, and have each other.  I keep my spirits up and remind myself that April showers bring May Flowers...

It's so hard having such highs and lows.  High: I'm so proud of my husband for the good things that happen with his job.  Low: I'm saddened by the insensitivity of those at my work place. On the very day that I returned to work from bereavement leave there were "granny" jokes among employees.  Not one person offered their condolences.  Awful.  High: My dear friends have included me in The Top 50 Mom Blogs of 2013.  I'd love your support if you are up to clicking "like" for Life by Cynthia. Low: There have been family misunderstandings. No doubt fueled by the fact that we are all grieving.  I've decided to to take the high road by being gracious even though my inclination was to set things straight on all that was said.  Sometimes silence is best.  In this case, it is.

I have been distracted but keep my sanity by taking walks during my breaks at the office.  I was going to start running instead of walking this week but injured myself after Church on Sunday.  I had a pretty bad spill and can barely walk - let alone run.  I told my husband that God wanted me on my knees praying a while longer (half kidding)...  I was also debating between two challenges this month: 30 Bikram Yoga or The Dailey Method.  Sidelined by injury for now...

I could go on and on but I don't want to dwell on it.  I sincerely thank all of you that have kept me in your thoughts and prayers. It means so much to me.
