Lubies=Love 'Em

For my son's recent birthday party we put together goodie bags for the kids with the standard goodie bag fare.  As a special giveaway we raffled off Lubies!  We packaged them really nicely in a celophane wrapped basket and topped it off with a bow. They were cute enough to use as centerpieces.  I wish I had a picture to post!

These are SO SUPER CUTE and I had to keep a couple for our son (OK, for me...).

I'm Taking A Trip To Monte Carlo!

This post brought to you by Monte Carlo. All opinions are 100% mine.

OK, not really. But I'll be able to check out amazing Monte Carlo scenes while watching the Must See Summer Movie: Monte Carlo! I know Selena Gomez from watching a load of Wizard's of Waverly Place with my nieces. She also happens to be Justin Bieber's real life girlfriend from what my nieces tells me. What are the odds that I can convince them to hang out with their Auntie to watch this?

Grace (Selena Gomez) is an ordinary girl who becomes an accidental princess when a family summer trip to Paris turns into the fantasy of a lifetime. Living like royalty, Grace, along with her two best friends, discovers who she really is -- by assuming another person's identity.

The movie will be in theaters on Friday with advanced tickets available through Fandango starting on Wednesday 6/29.  Don't forget to check out the Official Monte Carlo Movie page on Facebook for more details about the movie.

Kids Do The Darndest Things...

As you may know, I am a fairly new mommy. My husband an I have been loving every moment learning about life as first time parents.  We are amazed, amused, and enjoy all of our sons antics.  He really is quite a character.  Even at the tender young age of 12 months his personality is quite entertaining!  Last weekend, our Whirlwind Weekend, we celebrated his first birthday. With a venue full of children of all ages we survived without any meltdowns, stranger anxiety freak-outs, kid fights, injuries, or diaper disasters.  We had a successful first birthday party for our little guy.  Kids really do "do the darndest things"! Finding ways to throw off expectations of adults...With over 20 kids you would kind of expect something to go awry.  Nope. Everyone behaved!

Total Concentration - Ignoring Mommy's call for his attention!
When it came time to open gifts we thought that our son would be super excited to tear through the brightly colored packages to reveal the hidden contents.  Well, apparently not our guy! Our silly little thinks that he's a mini daddy.  Opting for grown up toys rather than his presents!  He has been fascinated with his daddy's tech gadgets from day one.  Anything that daddy is in to - our guy takes interest in:  remote controls, cell phones, gaming consoles, camera equipment, computer name it.  Now don't get me wrong, he does enjoy "kid" things:  watching Elmo, LOVED the balloons at his birthday party, and plays with his toys (when dad's toys are not in sight).  But he surprised us by ignoring all of  the brand new toys that he received.  Even the sounds, bright colors, and super cute characters couldn't grab his attention!  It wasn't until the camera equipment was put away that he finally paid attention to his birthday loot!  It really was hilarious trying to pull his attention away from his father's tripod!

Our Silly Little!

I hope that you'll share a "Kids Do The Darndest Things" moment with me!  I'm really excited for when our guy is talking more. I will surely do a blog post on "Kids SAY The Darndest Things" - stay tuned for that!

Hanging Out with The Girls

This post brought to you by Monte Carlo. All opinions are 100% mine.

Being a new mom has been quite an adjustment.  Making time to "hang out" with friends just hasn't been the same.  Our priorities have changed so drastically.  During my son's birthday party this past weekend, I got to talking with my girlfriends and the topic of spending time together came up.  I have the youngest child of the bunch and have been the least visible with them, understandably so. We are planning to find some time together  very soon.  I am thinking something mellow like lunch and a movie.  I am hoping they are all up for the new Selena Gomez movie Monte Carlo.  If not, maybe I can convince my nieces to hang out and bond with their Auntie!  I love romantic comedies and the movie location shots I'm sure will be amazing!

The movie will be in theaters on July 1st.  Advanced tickets will be available on Fandango on 6/29.  I would rather we get our tickets early since it is summer and kids are out of school.  No need to fuss with a busy box office.

Movie synopsis: Grace (Selena Gomez) is an ordinary girl who becomes an accidental heiress when a summer trip to Paris turns into the fantasy of a lifetime. On a dream vacation, Grace, along with her best friend and step-sister, discover that the greatest adventure is finding out who they really are.

Whirlwind Weekend

Who else is recovering from the weekend? Please raise your hand! Or at least share your story.

For us, we did so much that I don't know where to begin!  I apologize in advance if this post is all over the place.  We took care of last minute preparations for our son's 1st birthday party (that would take me a whole day to blog about).  Just recall your child's first and you'll be exhausted.  We even kept things "simple".  Anyway our son enjoyed his day with our friends and family.  We had a great time together.  No kid fights and no injuries added to the perfect afternoon.  Oops, we forgot the ice cream at home. one noticed.  Only now we have a huge tub of Bryer's Neopolitan Ice Cream.

Hubby and I took Friday off from work to honor our sons birth and our first year of parenthood.  We went on a family date and had a nice Italian lunch after going to Church.  Yes, we had wine and dessert, after all we had so much to celebrate.

On Friday evening we had a small celebration at home and had a cake for him. So our guy really had 2 birthday parties.  He  blew his candle out both times with much skill!  No spittle, no burns, no other kids blowing for him.  Success!  I've been to quite a few baby birthday parties that I passed on the cake because I didn't want to eat baby spit.  That was before I was a mom, now it wouldn't bother me.

Saturday was party day.  It was great to spend time with family and friends.  Our son was great and didn't mind being held by friends that he had only met when he was an infant.  No stranger anxiety, no fussing to break free and go back to mom & dad.  No tears.  He was happy the whole time.  After clean up and getting settled at home our guy was too sleepy to open gifts.  We were pretty pooped as well.

Sunday after Church we visited my in laws for a Father's Day brunch.  After returning home, we relaxed and watched our son open his birthday presents.  OK, we had to open them for him - he didn't seem to grasp the concept yet.  He enjoyed playing with his daddy's tripod rather than opening his gifts.  For dinner we went out for hubby's Father's Day celebration.

There ya go.  The condensed version of my whirlwind weekend!

Scary Moments as MOM

This post brought to you by Walgreens. All opinions are 100% mine.

I haven't written about any scary mom moments because up until now we have only experienced one.  Here is my story of my "Scary Moment".  It wasn't anything life threatening, but scary just the same.  For me, I think that a lot of it had to do with the "first time mom"-ness of it and the fact that I was there.  Our son was born on June 17.  On June 30 we brought him in for a "routine surgical procedure".  Since his pediatrician doesn't perform this procedure, a specialist performed it.  The doctor asked us if we wished to be present during the procedure. Without hesitation we agreed to be there.  The worst thing for a 13 day old mom is to hear her 13 day old newborn baby cry as loud as he possibly could.  Up to that point I had only heard very tiny cries that were so easily soothed just by holding & nursing him.  I couldn't do that for him in this instance as he was strapped down on the examining table.  During the heart-wrenching 8 minutes that it took the doctor to complete his handy work, I suffered the most pain I had ever endured. This was honestly the most tortuous moment in my life.  He wailed, his body shivered as he lay naked, and his faced turned from red to purple!  I wanted to trade places with him.  The doctor tried to explain that he was not in as much pain as we perceived him to be. That he was just cold and probably hungry....I didn't buy it since our son NEVER cried like that in the 13 days that I had known him!  I quietly cried as I held his little hand and I felt like I couldn't breathe. The nurse mercifully handed me a Kleenex....after the ordeal the doctor prescribed Infant Tylenol for any discomfort then sent us on our way.  We got him dressed, nursed him, and he fell quickly to sleep.  We went straight to the first drug store that we passed. They were completely out of stock of Infant Tylenol. I was upset. We left in a huff and was on a mission to find the medicine for our child. We went to another nearby pharmacy.  Walgreens.  Again we couldn't find any stocked.  Thankfully during this time our son was sleeping soundly.  My stress level was increasing and I myself felt my pain meds wearing off.  Remember, I had JUST given birth days earlier.  My husband went to the pharmacy counter to inquire if they had any in stock behind the counters.  The pharmacy staff advised us that they had pulled Infants Tylenol from shelves as a 'precautionary measure,'  - it was a voluntary recall by the manufacturer. This was more information than the prior drug store had informed us of.   The on-duty pharmacist, who had probably sensed my stress level, came to speak with us.  I was not only super hormonal from just having given birth days before, on pain medication, and having the overwhelming feeling of worry that at any moment my son would wake up SCREAMING in pain....She assured me that all was not lost. Thankfully the Infant Acetaminophen in the Walgreens Brand Health & Wellness Products line was available and would work as the doctor prescribed.

Thankfully, our son did not need to use the product for the resulting procedure.  We did use it a few months later when he had a slight fever and discomfort from teething!  The Infant Acetaminophen in the Walgreens Brand Health & Wellness Products line worked famously! We now think twice about our spending when it comes to buying medicines. We can save money without worrying about sacrificing quality.  Now we check before buying over the counter products!  Most contain the same active ingredients as other national brands.  Not something we thought about much prior to becoming parents. Some things you just learn along the way.
