Visiting Walmart Family Saves For lowest rate plan #shop

I have been looking for the lowest priced rate plan for wireless service for my family.  My main objective was to find an unlimited plan that offered the best wireless service for our needs. My quest for a cheap wireless plan brought me to Walmart. Great news! I believe that I have succeeded in securing the lowest priced rate plan! I'm thrilled to have found an affordable service and smartphone at great price without a contract.

At Walmart to #shop for an inexpensive wireless plan

I'll be honest - we already have a competitively priced plan for our existing service. My husband gets a discount through his employer.  Our cost is comparable to the Walmart Family Mobile Unlimited Talk + Text:  $29.88/mo. for primary phone,$24.88/mo. for each additional phone. We do pay a little bit more than that. So we could save a little (because every little bit counts) with Walmart by switching over and staying with talk and text OR we could save ALOT and go with talk, text and web.  We have 3 lines of service on our plan.  At this time we are no longer under contract.  We have been avoiding upgrading to smartphones because of the increased costs and having to renew another contract. The cost alone to move to talk, text, and web with our current provider would be (at least) an additional $40 per phone per month. Unlimited web is NOT an option - so it is possible that our bill could get way out of hand. To get our family up to speed on a smartphone program the Walmart Family Mobile plan could easily save us at least $120 a month with their 39.88/mo. plan!

The Walmart Family Mobile myTouch 4G Cell Phone phone is competitively priced at $149.88. Thanks to Rollback pricing we purchased one for $129.88. We also purchased a $25 Walmart Family Mobile Starter Kit.  We opted to set up service from home since we had a little one who wasn't feeling too well as well as a tired mommy and daddy who put in a full day of work at the office. Activating the phone from home was quick and easy! To activate my phone and for online account management all I had to do was visit: myfamilymobile.com. If you are more comfortable having it set up for you at the store that is also an option.

Having a predictable bill and not worrying about overage charges makes the plan even more appealing. I also appreciate not having to sign any contracts! No contract equals no early termination fees.  You never know when your financial situation may change: loss of a job, additions to the family, unexpected expenses... the last thing you need to worry about is paying a hefty cancellation fee!

We have stayed with the same carrier for YEARS and would toss around the idea of upgrading.  Being the practical couple that we are - we have been able to make do with "regular" cell phones. I am pleased that we can easily add data WITHOUT increasing our monthly expenses!  We can still be practical! I will be testing out the phone and service - we just might break up with our current carrier for good!

I'd love to know about your experiences! Since we have never been on a data plan we can only go by what friends and family have shared.  I have heard horror stories about their monthly cell phone bills!  If you are willing to share the MOST that you've ever paid for you phone service I'd like to hear it! How much is your smartphone & service worth to you? So far I had been living without one but have heard that it can become a necessity. Do you think that I'll become addicted?  In an upcoming post I'll definitely share my journey!

  1. This sounds like a great service plan. We are lucky and got unlimited data on AT&T before they restricted it. As long as we renew our contract and don't change anything we are grandfathered in. We were thinking of switching to another provider but opted to stay where we were because of the unlimited data.

    1. Hi Christy It does sound like a good plan. I'm not sure how much usage we really need since this is our first go at it... but I do find comfort with the unlimited part of it! Overages are no fun! Good deal that you are grandfathered in :)

    2. Since I have had a data plan, I have gotten one warning message from my provider saying they were going to throttle my bandwith. That particular month, I was streaming too much music and videos at home and didn't realize that I wasn't on the WiFi. I use WiFi when it is available, which for the most part is 75% of the time since I stay at home.

I hope you are enjoying your new phone. :)

    3. Hi Christy, I am figuring out the phone and having fun. Frustrating a times since I'm so used to my antique cell phone! LOL. I LOVE having the ability now to access the web wherever I am. I didn't think I NEEDED it, but it sure is awesome!

  2. This could have been written by Walmart's ad agency. Such a joke.

    1. Hi Anonymous August 17, 2013 at 8:19PM You didn't leave your name so I'm not able to address you properly by name. Anyway - thank you for stopping by. I'm flattered that you think that it could have been written by an ad agency! That might be cool to write for an agency now that you mention it! Writing jokes would be fun too. You have me rethinking my career! For now though, being a part time blogger and full time mom suits me. I appreciate your time and effort in reading my post AND leaving a comment. Awesome.

  3. This is my hubby's department - he does all the phone plans! All I know is I love my phone, that I can get on the internet when I want and can take pics! This girl is happy!

    1. Go hubby! I'm glad you're happy! :) I'll still have to figure out our new phone for pics/internet!

  4. I think my best data plan experience had been with Sprint. I tried every carrier and they always had the best customer service and the best plans. My husband made me switch to AT&T after we got married and I hate it ... but then I'm not the one who has to worry about the bill. So I don't really worry as much. My most horrifying billing experience was when I went on a cruise to Mexico and came back with an $800 bill!

    1. Thanks Lexie. This is my first experience with a data plan so it's all new to me! Thank you for sharing! WOW a $800 bill - eeks! BUT yay for the cruise! I'd love to go on a cruise one day!

  5. This is an excellent review! I've been waiting for cell phone plans to offer more to us. They kind of seem like health insurance. They know we have to buy it, and they don't care about what they offer. You know what I mean?

    1. Thanks Courtney. Personally, we have been fine for so long with very basic services. I just figure if we are paying that much ANYWAY - we may as well upgrade a bit. For nearly the same price it seems silly not too. We are going to see how the service works for us in our area before making a final decision. BUT so far, so good! OH boy, I'd better not talk health insurance - ours isn't the best of the best...

  6. Thanks for the in-depth review! I have an oldie cell with Verizon, that I got at Office Max. It is a pay-as-you-go. I can't even upload the pictures it takes to my computer. Now that my kids are needing their own phones, I will look into this. I'm always trying to save.

    1. HI Lisa! I thought that I was the only one left with an "oldie" cell phone! Thank you for letting me know that I wasn't alone :) I was stuck in a contract but am really excited about this plan. Great idea for the kids! Family plan - discount off monthly charge for additional lines! There are parental controls and online access to manage your account. My teenaged niece (and a lot of middle school kids of friends) all have smartphones with data plans. Here I am JUST NOW with one!

  7. I guess everything you really need is in Walmart :). Finding a mobile plan to suit your needs is almost like finding Mr. Right. It can be difficult, but once you've found the One, you're in mobile heaven. I hope things continue to work out with you and your new mobile plan.

    1. Pepper - I guess so, huh? I used to breeze by the electronics section (phones) but didn't realize that I could get a monthly plan for UNLIMITED talk, text, and web for less than $40/month! So far the coverage has been great! This might be "The One" - it IS like finding Mr. Right!

    1. Hi Courtney - I've had the phone and service for a few days now: so far, so good! Coverage in my area is great but it does vary by location. Thanks for sharing! We are smartphone newbies so I'll have to test it out a bit more - which will be FUN!

    1. Hi Jennifer! That's what I'm saying! It sounded too good to be true. My carrier would charge us at LEAST $70 a month with a shared data plan. I was getting a little bit embarrassed of my old school phone so I'm glad that I got a new one too!

  10. It sounds like Walmart offers very affordable plans. My experience has been with Sprint for over 15 years. I've always received great service and they've been able to offer me affordable plans - especially with my hubby's discount through his work. However, if I ever left Sprint, I would definitely check out Walmart's plans. Thanks for this information!

    1. Hi Roz. I was honestly surprised! That's awesome that you have an affordable plan and great service. We have been with our carrier for about as long as you have - but the data plans was just more than we felt we should pay for service. Great having options!

  11. Oh, this is excellent!! What a great deal and option.

Like Savvy Mompreneur, we use Sprint, but this seems like an excellent option for the kiddos. You never know, I mean, some parents think kids are getting phones to early, but I think in this world we're living, I want my kids to be able to contact me at *all* times.

    1. Hi arirjames! I agree - it's a great option. The cost is reasonable, there are no contracts, credit checks, or worrying about overages! Our kiddo is a preschooler so we won't be getting him a phone anytime soon! It does seem that many kids have smartphones these days! Thank you for stopping by and sharing a comment!

  12. This is an amazing deal. The money I could save in a year could buy new furniture for my living room! It's crazy to think 1 simple switch could save you hundreds in less than a year!
