VERY soon school will be out for the summer! We are very excited even though we don't have much of a game plan set. We are winging it. Our plan: no stress and have as much FUN as we can. One thing is for sure: being sick is not one of those things on our list! We want to enjoy every single day of summer break.
Pfizer Consumer Healthcare sent over their Pediatric Platform products to have on hand if our kiddo gets sick. Honestly, we hope that we don't have to use them. Having them on hand does offer some peace of mind.
When you are a mom and your child is sick, it is easily one of the WORST feelings in the world. We try our best to keep our little ones healthy. My toughest early mommy moments was when my tiny one had a cold or the flu. It didn't happen often, but when it did - it broke my heart. Too young to take any medication. For a first time mom (like I was) it was tough to watch him ride it out. Holding my little guy was the ONLY thing that made him feel better. I would sit up with him so that he could breathe easier and find comfort in my arms. We did use a humidifier when needed, offered a lot of fluids, and encouraged him to just rest. I've learned to rely on prevention and use of products to take at the first signs of sickness to reduce the length and severity of colds.
Once our child hit preschool we came to accept that germs happen. He is a trooper and didn't often get sick. Thank goodness for a strong immune system. During Kindergarten he did catch more colds but only missed classes a handful of times. He hated missing school. He loves his classmates and his teachers. With just a few weeks left, we are shooting for zero sick days for the rest of the school year! We don't plan on missing our Monday morning assembly!
Our guy will be in first grade soon and now meets the recommended age for most over the counter children's medication. The hope is that we will not be needing them, but we now have some on hand for just in case. I am thankful for a great pediatrician who eased our nerves when it comes to common colds and illness during childhood. As our son gets older he is just more exposed than in the past: the playground, at school, at birthday parties, play dates...
